Google Workspace 2-Step Verification (2SV) Guide

Update your account security, protect against unauthorised access and modern phishing attempts

Sign In to Your Account

Step 1.

Navigate to https://classroom.google.com/h/sc and sign in using your existing username and initial password. Upon signing in, you will be directed to the mandatory security setup screen.

Set Up Your Passkey (Recommended)

Step 2 - Option A.

Passkeys provide the fastest and most secure sign-in experience:

  1. Select Create a Passkey on the setup screen.
  2. When prompted by your browser or operating system, authenticate using your device's biometrics (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello) or security key.
  3. Confirm the prompt to save the passkey to your device or password manager.
  4. Download your preferred Authenticator app on your mobile device.
  5. Select Set up Authenticator App on the enrolment screen to display a QR code.
  6. Open your app, tap Add Account or the + icon, and scan the QR code displayed on your screen.
  7. Enter the temporary 6-digit verification code generated by the app to complete activation.

Verification: Once completed, test your passkey by signing out and clicking Sign in with Passkey. You should be prompted for your biometrics or screen lock code without typing a password.

        Set Up an Authenticator App

        Step 2 - Option B

If you do not use passkeys, set up an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password, or Bitwarden):

Verification: Enter the current 6-digit code shown in your app. A confirmation message will appear verifying that the app is successfully linked.

                Save Your Emergency Recovery Codes

                Step 3

After configuring your passkey or authenticator app, a set of single-use emergency backup codes will be displayed.

                • Download or write down these codes and store them in a secure location.
                • Note: If you lose your phone or replace your device, these codes are the only way to recover access to your account without contacting support.
