How to transfer your phones data (iPhone to iPhone)

What You Need Before Starting

  • Both iPhones charged (or plugged in) 

  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned ON

  • Your Apple ID and password ready

  • Make sure your old iPhone is updated to a recent iOS version

  • If you use whatsapp, back your data up before moving data over to do this go to settings – chats – chat backup – back up data

Step-by-Step Wireless Transfer (Quick Start)

1. Turn on your new iPhone

  • Place it near your old iPhone

  • The “Hello” screen will appear → swipe up to begin

2. Use Quick Start

  • On your old iPhone, a popup will appear offering to set up the new device

  • Tap Continue

  • An animation will show on the new iPhone

3. Scan the animation

  • Use your old iPhone camera to scan the animation on the new iPhone screen (or tap “Set Up Manually” if needed)

4. Enter passcode

  • Enter your old iPhone’s passcode on the new iPhone

5. Set up Face ID / Touch ID

  • Follow prompts to set up security

6. Choose transfer method

  • Select “Transfer from iPhone” (this is the wireless option)

7. Agree to terms and start transfer

  • Accept Apple’s terms and conditions

  • The transfer will begin

8. Keep phones close together

  • Leave both iPhones next to each other and plugged in

  • Do NOT use either device during transfer

Time depends on how much data you have (anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour)

9. Finish setup

  • Once complete, your new iPhone will restart

  • Apps, photos, messages, settings, and accounts should all be transferred

After Transfer Tips

  • Some apps may continue downloading in the background

  • You may need to re-enter passwords for apps like banking or email

  • Check Photos, Messages, and Contacts to confirm everything moved over

Troubleshooting

  • If Quick Start doesn’t appear:

    • Restart both iPhones

    • Make sure Bluetooth is on

  • You can also use iCloud backup as a backup method
